Entry options for foreign companies

  Joint Venture or

Wholly Owned    Subsidiary

 Foreign companies can choose this route to can carry out business activity in India by forming an Indian company either by holding 100% shares subject to industry sector caps or by entering into joint venture with one or more Indian and foreign partners.


Project Office

Foreign companies planning to execute specific projects in India are allowed to set up temporary project or site offices in India as approved by RBI subject to fulfilment of certain conditions.

Liaison Office

 Foreign companies can setting up of a Liaison/Representative office, however, liaison office is not allowed to earn any income in India . The role of liaison office is limited to collecting information about possible market opportunities and providing information about the company and its products to the prospective Indian customers or clients.


Branch Office

 Foreign companies have an option to set up a branch office for trading; commercial or industrial in nature as approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
